A Tennessee mom will spend the rest of her life behind bars after being convicted of murdering her 15-month-old daughter and hiding the little girl’s body in a playhouse.
Megan Boswell, 23, was found guilty on multiple charges, including three counts of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and aggravated child neglect. A Sullivan County jury reached the verdict after just over four hours of deliberation.
A Devastating Disappearance
Baby Evelyn Boswell was last seen in December 2019, but authorities weren’t alerted about her disappearance until months later. As the search for the toddler gained national attention, Megan gave conflicting statements, making it difficult for investigators to track down the truth.

In March 2020, after weeks of desperate searching, authorities made a heartbreaking discovery: Evelyn’s remains were found in a playhouse on a family member’s property.
Lies and Deception
From the beginning, Megan’s ever-changing story raised red flags. Investigators with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation testified that Megan falsely claimed her daughter had died from co-sleeping. Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy confirmed that every time they questioned Megan, her version of events changed.
In August 2020, Megan was officially charged with murder. She pleaded not guilty and chose not to testify during her trial.
A Life Sentence with a Chance for Parole
On Thursday, the jury sentenced Megan to life in prison with the possibility of parole—sparing her from life without parole. While she could eventually seek release, she will spend decades behind bars before becoming eligible.
The case of baby Evelyn left an entire community in shock, with many still mourning the tragic loss of an innocent child. Justice may have been served, but the scars left by this heartbreaking crime will never fully heal.
