Is Mamma Mia! about to get a fresh new face? According to the film’s longtime producer, Judy Craymer, pop star Sabrina Carpenter might just be the perfect fit for the third movie in the hit ABBA-inspired franchise.
In a recent chat with Deadline, Craymer hinted that Carpenter—who’s 26 and already a fan favorite thanks to her performances of ABBA songs at her concerts—would be a dream addition to the film’s colorful cast.
“She’d be a goddess,” Craymer said, lighting up at the idea. “Or maybe someone related to Meryl Streep’s character. She definitely has that look.”
While nothing’s set in stone just yet, Craymer confirmed Mamma Mia 3 is still very much in the works. “It’ll happen when it happens,” she said, adding that a script has already been written but remained tight-lipped about the plot details.

That hasn’t stopped fans—and even cast members—from dreaming up roles for Carpenter. Amanda Seyfried, who stars as Sophie in the series, said back in October 2024 that she’d love to see Sabrina play her on-screen daughter.
“Technically, she could,” Seyfried laughed during an ABC News interview. “Old-age makeup for me? No problem! I’m a fan—I’ll make it happen if she wants in.”

Mamma Mia! originally hit screens in 2008 and quickly became a global hit, following Sophie’s hilarious and heartfelt mission to figure out which of three men is her biological father. The sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, came out in 2018 and gave us a peek into the past, with Lily James playing a young Donna (originally played by Meryl Streep).

And yes, even though Donna is shown to have passed away in the sequel, Craymer teased that Streep might still return for the next chapter. “She said our after-shooting dinners were legendary,” Craymer recalled fondly.
So while we wait for official casting news, one thing’s clear—Sabrina Carpenter has some big fans in the Mamma Mia! universe. And if things go the way fans hope, we might just see her stepping into a pair of platform boots and belting out an ABBA classic on a sun-soaked Greek island very soon.
Stay tuned—because this musical adventure is far from over.
