Mindy Kaling just hit a major Hollywood milestone—and she’s absolutely here for it. The actress, writer, and producer was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and her longtime friend and former Office co-star B.J. Novak made sure to celebrate the moment with humor, love, and a little light roasting.
A Speech Filled with Love and Laughter
During the ceremony, Novak playfully pointed out that while Kaling is a powerhouse writer, producer, and mother of three, she’s also—at her core—someone who genuinely enjoys being famous.
“In addition to being a brilliant and wildly successful showrunner, an incredible mother, and a caring friend, Mindy is also, in her spare time, very superficial,” Novak joked, earning laughs from the crowd.
He added that their close circle always knew Kaling was destined for stardom, “but we had no idea how beautifully you’d handle the job.”
Kaling, never one to miss a comedic moment, later thanked Novak in her speech, calling him such a big part of her life that she sometimes forgets their friendship started at work. Then, in classic Kaling fashion, she delivered a self-aware punchline:

“I’m as starstruck by him now at age 29 as I was when I first met him at 24.” (For the record, they’re both 45.)
From ‘The Office’ to Hollywood Royalty
Kaling first won hearts as Kelly Kapoor on The Office, where she also worked as a writer and executive producer. She later created and starred in The Mindy Project and went on to produce hit shows like The Sex Lives of College Girls. On the big screen, she’s appeared in films like Ocean’s 8, Late Night, and A Wrinkle in Time.
And if anyone doubted Novak’s claim about her love of fame, Kaling confirmed it herself.
“This is one of those times where I’m just going to force myself to be in the moment,” she said, smiling. “I love recognition, and this is just incredibly nice.”
With a star now shining on Hollywood Boulevard, it’s safe to say Kaling’s moment is here to stay.
