A man’s bid to smuggle cocaine onto a plane in the most unusual manner has put him in deep trouble with the authorities.
The 40-year-old Pereira suspect was intercepted at security as he attempted to board a flight from Cartagena to Amsterdam. In a video posted by the Colombian National Police, officers were suspicious and searched the man, finding that he had concealed capsules of cocaine in his wig.
Shocking Airport Discovery
Police announced that the secret supply of cocaine was worth over 10,000 euros (nearly $10,500). Officers can be seen in a video released by police cutting through the wig, revealing the drugs before them testing. The tests confirmed the presence of cocaine.
Police said the incident occurred on February 20. They suspect the suspect intended to smuggle the drugs into Amsterdam, where the narcotics would be distributed.

Criminal History and Drug Seizures

Authorities also revealed that the suspect has two previous records for drug trafficking. After his arrest, he was turned over to the Attorney General’s Office to be charged with drug possession, manufacturing, and trafficking.
Cartagena Metropolitan Police Commander Brigadier General Gelver Yecid Peña Araque reported that over 450 individuals were arrested during the year for drug offenses. He said that over 115 kilos of illicit drugs, such as marijuana, cocaine base, and cocaine, have been seized.
Public Support Sought
Police highlighted their continued efforts to destroy drug networks and curb violence associated with narcotics trafficking.
“We are hitting hard against these criminal groups, who not only traffic drugs but also generate violence and other crimes that undermine public order,” Brigadier General Peña Araque stated.
He also called on the public to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious behavior, emphasizing that cooperation from the community is the key to fighting drug-related crimes.
The authorities are still investigating the case.
