A Seattle mother is facing murder charges after allegedly beating her teenage son to death—reportedly over unfinished chores. Authorities say 14-year-old Denaylon Young suffered a shocking 1,172 injuries before he died on January 30.
According to investigators, his mother, Denaya Young, used an extension cord in the brutal attack. Reports from KIRO, King 5, and The Seattle Times reveal that Young allegedly admitted to police that she “lost count” of how many times she struck her son.
The King County Medical Examiner determined that Denaylon’s death was caused by Sudden Inflammatory Response Syndrome—a condition where the body floods injured areas with blood, overwhelming the heart.
During the fatal beating, police say Denaylon’s three siblings were inside the home. It’s unclear if they witnessed the attack.
Young has been charged with second-degree murder. As of now, it is not known whether she has a lawyer or has entered a plea.
